If you are the CEO of a large corporation you likely have no problem finding financing. Even if you company is in trouble its probably still not an issue. You might even know the CEO of the lending bank personally and can just make a simple phone call.

If you however are starting a new small business then your story of financing is totally different. Banks are very timid when it comes to lending money to small businesses, especially when you are just starting out. Historically many more small business fail then succeed so banks know it’s going to be a roll of the dice.

If you need financing to get going though you don’t really have a choice, you are going to need to secure a loan from somewhere. How much you need to borrow is going to dictate what your next move is going to be. If you need five thousand or less then you likely can just apply for a business credit card, and if your personal credit is good enough be approved pretty quickly. The price you pay for this ease of use is going to be in the interest rate however. The nice thing is that it’ll be a revolving credit account, just like any other credit card, so if you need to borrow money again it will be very easy.

If you need more then five thousand then you are going to have to jump through more hoops. Basically you are going to try to secure funding through a small business loan. You will need to put together a business plan, and show all the pieces of this business you all ready have in place. Really take your time with this plan and make sure that it makes sense. Put yourself in the banks shoes, does this sound like something you would loan someone else money to do?

If all your funding options fail then it might be time to re-evaluate your business plan. Is the plan bad or was your personal credit bad? If the plan is still good them maybe you could scale it back at first until you can show that it works and then work on the financing again. Could you maybe start working out of your home instead of an office for example.

If you really stay focused and believe in yourself, you will eventually make it happen. Remember most all business that are household names were at one time the dream of someone just like yourself!
