Loans For The Unemployed

Loans for the unemployed are an interesting and tricky option. With the economy doing as poorly as it is these days there is not lack of unemployed people out there. During a long period of unemployment it can be very common to be in need of funds. However one of the key elements that any lender is going to look at is whether or not your are employed. There in lies the conflict.

Lots of people are unemployed right now and in need of funds. The question you need to ask yourself is if a loan is right for you. Sure it would be easy to say, “I’ll be employed soon so I’ll take a loan now and pay it back when I get a job.” But this is a very bad economy right now. So in reality how quickly are you going to find a job. If that takes longer then you think, and the payments come due, are you going to be able to cover then, or did you really just make you situation much worse?

If you do decide that a loan while you are unemployed is the right option for you, the next trick is going to be finding a bank that will lend you money. One of the first questions any lender is going to ask you when you start the loan process is where you work, for how long, and how much do you make? At this point you are going to have nothing! So you are likely going to have to look around for quite a while before you find a bank that will even talk to you. Then you are going to have to sell them on the fact that either you are going to be employed by the time the payments come due, or you will have some other means of repaying the loan when it comes due even if you haven’t found work.

One way that will make getting loans for the unemployed much easier is to find a co-signer. This is someone else that is willing to sign the loan along with you. This means that if for some reason you can no longer make your payments, the person who co-signs is willing and able to make them for you. This is a big commitment so you are going to have to find someone that really trusts you to make those payments.

So overall you first need to decided if a loan while you are unemployed is right for you. If you decide that it is, you are then going to have to try to find a co-signer. And if nobody is willing to co-sign for you then you are really going to have to look hard for a bank willing to work with you and really sell them on the fact that you are going to be able to repay the loan.
